As a small child growing up, Sherry Adams developed a deep love and respect of horses. "Their physical strength and majestic beauty always intrigued me," she explains. "I always knew that one day I would own a horse. "
In 1998 that dream became reality when Allen promised to buy her a horse on Christmas day. After a great deal of research, Sherry chose to take riding lessons first, and began riding with Tinker Buckley of Buckley Farms. Tinker later helped Sherry pick out a prospect well suited for her.
During that time, Sherry was in the fortunate position to retire from a long-time career in commercial real estate marketing and business development. And after months of riding and learning more about the reining horses at Buckley Farms, she became enthralled with the sport of reining.
"The reining horses were fascinating to me. They reminded me of dressage horses, but more athletic and less temperamental," remembers Sherry.
Deciding to learn more, she leased a reining horse and developed her skills in the saddle and her knowledge of the industry. Reining quickly became a passion for Sherry as she attended reining shows, bought books, riding and training tapes, and magazines. After spending a great deal of time with trainers, breeders and horse owners; she decided to do more.

"I became involved with associations related to reining. I really became excited when I learned that reining was being considered as the United States Equestrian Team’s newest and only western discipline," says Sherry.
Although reining had been in existence for decades, Sherry realized that the newly formed association of reining with the United States Equestrian Team made the sport a ground floor business opportunity for emerging markets.
"The fact that reining is the only western discipline adds to the market appeal. I decided it would be prudent to become a part of this new business opportunity," she explains.
To accomplish that goal, Sherry developed International Equine Investments LLC in 1999, a limited liability company formed for the sole purpose of "breeding, training and showing champion reining horses for a profit." Quite simply, as Sherry puts it, the objective of the business is to breed United States and International Equestrian Team horses.
Fast forward to 2006, and it becomes obvious that Sherry is making things happen. She currently is the Ambassador of Reining for the United States Equestrian Team, and a board member of the United States Equestrian Foundation. This is all in addition to the full scale breeding and training operation she and Allen are developing at Star Ranch with the help of resident trainer, Bud Lyon.
Covered Arena at Star Ranch

The Adams' are excited about the advancement of Reining on an international level, as well as the corresponding future of Star Ranch.
The ranch features a 125' x 250' covered, lighted arena with a grandstand that can accommodate a crowd and an excellent PA system. "We will be holding clinics at the ranch, and several will be disciplines other than reining," notes Sherry.
"One of my personal missions is to broaden the understanding of USEF and the USET Foundation within our region. Both organizations seem to be an enigma in this area. So we will be having Olympians performing clinics," she explains.
If you happen to be in the Aubrey area, please feel free to call the Ranch and stop by. Star Ranch offers outstanding reining horses for sale, training services, and non pro instruction, and visitors are always welcome. Head trainer Bud Lyonwould be happy to show you around, or help you develop your own reining dreams.
